Jerez day 2: Fernando flies
Fernando Alonso completed over 100 laps of testing at the Jerez circuit in Spain today (Wednesday), including one that made him the quickest driver running during the session
The Spaniard worked on a split programme of tyre evaluation and mechanical set-up work, and also ran several development items for the 2004 season, and outpaced his nearest rival by 0.223s.
"A very, very productive first day of testing," said technical director Mike Gascoyne. "We had a trouble-free session, and Fernando's lap-times look very competitive."
Cristiano da Matta was second fastest for Toyota, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, who completed 21 laps in the sole surviving MP4-18A.
Marc Gene was third fastest for Williams, with David Coulthard propping up the timesheets in an MP4-17D.
