Jarno Trulli Q&A

Once again Jordan's luck turned bad at Hockenheim as Heinz-Harald Frentzen hit technical problems and team mate Jarno Trulli suffered a stop and go penalty. The latter was applied for passing under yellow flags, or more specifically an incident that occurred just as the first safety car went out. Rubens Barrichello ducked into the pits for his second stop, and as he came out, Jarno - who had pitted the previous lap - passed him as he exited the first corner. The Italian claims that it was a typical 50:50 pit exit situation, and that he was alongside Rubens, and his momentum carried him past. Jarno ran second behind Mika Hakkinen for a while, but after his stop for wets - and the subsequent penalty - he eventually finished ninth. Despite some very promising performances this year, Trulli has just six points to his name, from a fourth and three sixth places. Adam Cooper spoke to him after the race

"It seems that the marshals reported that I overtook Rubens when he was going out of the pits. It depends on the interpretation. In fact when he came out he was right next to me, or slightly behind me, so I didn't overtake anyone deliberately. The problem I think was when he came out the first thing I did was to close the door, to save my position. I wasn't fighting at all, but I was closing because I was thinking maybe Rubens could overtake me. I don't know what's going on. It's too difficult to judge that kind of situation. I was already on my racing line, and he came out. They say that I overtook, but how can I know? It's typical that when you go out from the pits in these yellow flag, safety car conditions. It's normal. If you come out and he's next to you, it's normal that 50 metres later you are ahead, because you are quicker. If he comes out ahead of you, you see, and anyway, he closes the door. If it's 50:50, who gives up?"

"Only now - I didn't know before. I was just told that I overtook under yellow flags. But I always follow the cars in front of me, and never, ever overtook anyone. But the marshals of Post 7, which is in the middle of the straight, say I overtook Rubens."

"I was comfortable and easy. Maybe I was unlucky because the guys on two stops gained quite a lot with the safety car. But having said that, with the first safety car, thanks to the team calling me straight into the pits, I gained one place, because Coulthard didn't stop. So at that stage I was second. And probably I would have finished my race second. Then they called me in again for wet tyres. Anyway, I would have finished third, if you take a look at the results. But we were very unlucky again."

"Especially when I used a new set of tyres. After the pit stop it was very good. Before it was OK, but I wasn't very happy all through the weekend, because I didn't test a lot in dry conditions. And when I did test I always had problems. But during the race I was suiting myself better to the car, and I would have been able to finish on the podium."

"It's a big frustration, more than anyone else can understand. From the beginning of the season, I am trying to reach the podium, and I've lost three or four podiums, without any of them being my fault."

"Of course there are a lot of races to go, but in these conditions, how the race went today, it was pretty easy to get a good result. And then suddenly everything falls down."

"I'm happy for him. But he was very lucky today, and everything went right for him when it went wrong for me."
