Swiss Sauber test driver Neel Jani believes he can be the next in a long line of promising drivers to come through the Swiss team â€" and has targeted a place in Formula One in 2005.
Jani, 19, is taking part in the Renault V6 championship this year but is confident he can rapidly progress up the motorsport ladder and become another of Sauber's young guns to rise through the ranks.
"This season I will do the V6 championship then we must look next year, depending on the results, and that we can only say at the end of the year," Jani told Swiss newspaper Sonntagsblick when asked of his hopes for the future.
"I know that I want to drive in Formula One in 2005. I believe I can do it. I never considered what happens if I do not manage it and I do not want not to consider it."
Jani made his debut for the Swiss team last month after being signed up by Peter Sauber and hailed as the man to follow in the footsteps of the talent-spotter's previous catches.
Sauber ran Finn Kimi Raikkonen in 2001 before selling him to McLaren-Mercedes for the following season and signing up replacement Brazilian Felipe Massa, who has now joined Ferrari as a test driver.
