Jaguar Plan Significant Aero Changes

Jaguar Racing are planning to boost their technical ranks before the end of the season in a bid to improve the aerodynamics on their cars.

The team already have plans to get their own wind tunnel to help with aerodynamic developments, but chief aerodynamicist Mark Handford said the team are also hoping to bring new technical staff in.

"We're bringing in a couple more seasoned aerodynamicists this year," said Handford. "Obviously we get inundated with bright young hopefuls but one of the difficulties of the job is that it is very experimentally-based and it's difficult to get any return on the investment for a long time if you bring someone new in.

"So we're unlikely to be taking anyone on at that level because we have plenty of ideas but we could do with more seasoned judgement."

Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine has continuously stressed the importance for the team to get their own wind tunnel and is confident that the aerodynamics will improve and boost the cars up the grid in the future.

Irvine said: "To be honest, we are making improvements but then everyone else is making improvements. If we make three per cent improvements it doesn't mean that everyone else will make the same leap.

"We have to just keep fighting away but I think the next step should move us up the grid but we don't know yet. I think we could race with the bigger boys if we could qualify just behind them, at the moment we can't qualify behind them."
