Jacques won't pay for Jag seat
Ex-world champion Jacques Villeneuve says he is not prepared to buy his way back into Formula 1 with Jaguar Racing in 2004, according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine
Reports in the Canadian media last week linked him to the vacant seat alongside Mark Webber. They claimed his manager, Craig Pollock, had commissioned a sports marketing company to find almost £3m in sponsorship to fund his Jaguar drive.
But a spokeswoman for Villeneuve said: "Jacques has no interest in buying a ride in F1. Therefore the stories in the Canadian media are incorrect."
AUTOSPORT also reports that McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz remains favourite for the drive with backing from Superfund. Holland's Jos Verstappen and Austria's Christian Klien are also angling for the seat.
Justin Wilson is hopeful of retaining his place with the Milton Keynes-based team, however. His manager, Jonathan Palmer, said: "The chances of Justin keeping his drive are reasonable."
