Jacques Villeneuve Q&A

Jacques Villeneuve hasn't had a lot of luck in 2003, and at Hockenheim he was punted into a spin by Justin Wilson as the field tried to dodge around the accident at the front of the pack. A pitstop put him to the very back of the field and after that it was a hard slog to make up any ground at all. Meanwhile Jenson Button continued to outshine his team-mate buy bringing home another point for eighth place. Speculation about Villeneuve's future abounds, although it now seems he may yet stay put at BAR, albeit at a much-reduced salary. Adam Cooper spoke to the Canadian

"If you qualify at the back, it means you're not quick, so there's no point in trying to be a hero. I don't know who tried to be a hero, but a bunch of people who were behind me tried to be heroes and went in crazy. Someone clipped my rear tyre, and I've no idea why."



"It looked like a Jaguar. But it's normal, he's out of a Minardi, it's his first time in a better team, and he thinks he can really show what he can do, so he screws other people's races. So that's a little bit annoying, too bad. We didn't need that after the way the season's been going. It's too bad because we had a lot of fuel on board, we had a good strategy. We came in the pits [under the safety car] to make sure the suspension wasn't broken. Had we known that the Minardis were coming in, we probably would have stayed on the track, because that lost me 12 seconds on the restart. And we had a lot of fuel on board, which in hindsight wasn't the right thing to do. After the stop I came out just in front of the leaders and lost another 10 seconds letting them by, and that cost us our race."



"Yeah. I was already in the corner, so I don't know what the people were doing. I have no idea. Under braking, OK, but nobody hit me, and I was already at the point where I was already looking at where I was coming out of the corner. I really don't understand what happened."



"Yeah, I had a lot of fuel, and he didn't have that much, and just coming out of Turn Two he had good acceleration. It took a while for my tyres to come in to temperature, three or four laps, and that was enough to lose a lot of time."



"The performance is there, because we were quick. We did a one-stop, and our lap times compared to the fuel were actually competitive. It's just that once again it didn't go our way, for whatever reason. That's life."



"I don't think it has much effect. All the damage has been done by now, anyway, and it cannot get worse."



"Well, with a great weekend you can finish eighth. If we have another race where things go wrong for stupid reasons, then we won't be in the points."



"Personally, I don't care about the constructors' right now. The way the season's been going, anything we can grab, we will."



"It's quite exciting, isn't it? I really don't know what will happen. It's going to be fun."
