"I want to race, I don't want to be testing any more," said Pizzonia, who finished seventh at Monza after being hurriedly called up by Williams on Saturday morning as a late stand-in for unwell German Nick Heidfeld.

"I need a new challenge. I've been with Williams for three or four years and to spend another season just testing is too much. We are talking to a few teams and I hope after this weekend things will be a bit easier."

Pizzonia started 11 races for Jaguar without scoring a point in 2003 alongside Australian Mark Webber, his Williams teammate on Sunday.

The two had an uneasy relationship in that team and Webber was angered when Pizzonia claimed later that the Australian had been favoured by Jaguar.

Webber also encouraged the team to sign Heidfeld rather than Pizzonia for a race seat this year when the two test drivers were vying for the contract. Pizzonia hoped he had proved a point by scoring while Webber, caught up in a first lap tangle, finished 14th.

"I had a lot of problems like this when I was at Jaguar and today was his turn, it happens," said Pizzonia.

"Personally, I never had any problem with Mark. Maybe he has a problem with me but I didn't even look to the other side of the garage. I don't care who my teammate is, I just want to beat him and do what I did today."

Pizzonia's last Formula One race was also at Monza last year, as a replacement that time for Germany's Ralf Schumacher.

This year he had a harder task, having missed out on the Monza tests last week while the last Formula One car he drove had an experimental V8 engine in it rather than a V10.

"It was such a rush to get in the car on Saturday morning and the lack of testing and everything was totally against me," he said.

"It was really hard to get back up to speed even in the race, it took me about 20 or 30 laps to get back and get used to everything again."
