Irvine Tips Schumacher for the Title

Jaguar's Eddie Irvine paid tribute to his former team and teammate, saying Ferrari and Michael Schumacher are on a sure way to win the team's first drivers' World Championship in 21 years.

"You've got to hand it to Michael and Ferrari," The Ulsterman says. "They've done a brilliant job from top to bottom - the whole team has worked brilliantly. The pressures are huge, but if anyone knows how to deal with them all it is these guys, Mika and Michael.

"Michael has got the points advantage and he can win the race, so Ferrari are in the better position. You would have to be a very brave man to bet against Michael now."

Irvine, now lying 13th equal in the championship standings with three points, also said he looks forward to this week's Japanese Grand Prix, at a track he considers to be his best.

"I think everyone knows it is my favourite event and that I consider Suzuka to be the most challenging track on the calendar," Irvine said. "Suzuka is a special circuit for me. I have driven thousands of kilometres here in racing and testing and it was the scene of my Formula One debut. I have finished a Japanese Grand Prix in every point scoring position from sixth to second."
