Irvine happy with fighting third place
Eddie Irvine was delighted with third place in Montreal after a collision with David Coulthard had dropped him to 8th earlier in the race
The Irishman was full of praise for his Ferrari after his third podium finish of
the season. He is now third in the championship.
'My car was perfect, the best racing car I have ever driven,' he said. 'I'm happy with third after such an exciting race
'When the safety car went in Coulthard managed to get a run at me
because a backmarker put dirt on the track and I had to slow. We were
side-by-side, he clipped my back wheel and I spun. Then the fun began.'
Stewart's Johnny Herbert was Irvine's biggest obstacle on the way back through the field, and both took to the grass during their battle.
'Because of the way he drives I knew there would be very few chances to get
past. When one presented itself I knew I had
to take it,' said Irvine. 'I decided that I would go for the first chance I got and I decided even if he braked 50 yards too late I would brake 55 yards too late.
'It wasn't pretty but it worked.'
