Unhappy fans wanting a refund should complain directly to Formula One's rulers and French tyre company Michelin, promoters said on Sunday after seven of the 10 teams pulled out of the US Grand Prix

Seven of the 10 teams pulled out after the warm-up lap. They had pleaded in vain for an extra chicane to slow down the cars because of concern over the durability of Michelin's tyres.

Boos rang out from the stands at the Brickyard track, which were packed with an estimated 120,000 spectators, during and after the race. Many fans had left before the end and some threw cans and bottles on to the track in disgust.

The IMS apologised to all the fans and suggested they should make their feelings known to the FIA, Michelin and Formula One Administration.

"The Indianapolis Motor Speedway shares in the disappointment with the loyal fans of IMS and Formula One that we did not see the exciting race we all anticipated due to circumstances beyond our control," said the IMS in a statement.

The FIA, Formula One, the constructors and manufacturers that represent the cars on the starting grid made decisions on an individual basis to limit participation in today's US GP.
