Heidfeld to Miss Brazilian GP

Nick Heidfeld has confirmed that he will definitely miss the Brazilian Grand Prix after injuring himself in a bicycle accident at the weekend

The German was keeping himself fit at home in Switzerland when he was in collision with a motorbike and fell off his bicycle. He has suffered a suspected fractured shoulder blade as well as a dislocated finger on his left hand and grazes.

"It's such a mess," he said on Monday. "After I could not drive two races because of the consequences of an accident in testing at Monza, I must now also miss Brazil."

Speaking about his accident, Heidfeld added: "I wanted to train at home a little in order to see whether, with a higher pulse, my headache would become apparent again.

"I took my racing cycle, because I wanted to avoid the impacts of going off-road on my mountain bike. At a junction I was unfortunately negligent and collided with a motorbike. I fell off but thought it was not so bad.

"But then I felt pain in my shoulder and I drove to hospital. They X-rayed the shoulder and did a CT scan, and found a fracture in my right shoulder blade. They also found a dislocation in my left ring finger and a few grazes - but they would not have been a problem for Brazil.

"It is only that the shoulder blade must heal completely before I can drive again. I am unbelievably annoyed that this happened to me - and that I cannot help the team this week in testing or in Brazil."

Although Heidfeld has only confirmed that he will miss the Brazilian Grand Prix, he could be out for the rest of the season if his shoulder blade does not fix in time.

He added: "I hope I have used up my accident quota for the year - and can soon log some times on the race track rather than hospital visits."

Williams are almost certain to keep Antonio Pizzonia on board for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
