Renault driver Jarno Trulli is expecting the French squad to perform strongly at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend after a promising start in today's first qualifying session.
Trulli underlined Renault's challenge with the fourth fastest time after his less experienced Spanish teammate Fernando Alonso paid the price for errors on the unforgiving track and ended up 14th.
"I had a good afternoon session and I am very pleased with my position," said the Italian driver, who crashed against the barriers in the testing session in the morning. "We managed to solve the problems that had hampered our work during this mornings session and thanks to the teams hard work the car improved considerably. We can expect a good weekend for us."
Alonso, meanwhile, was hoping to be able to complete a better lap in Saturday's grid-deciding session after his slow start.
"It's always difficult here in Monaco to do the perfect lap," he said. "I didn't get the maximum today from my car but it's Saturday that's important and I'll make sure that I will do much better than today and be further up on the starting grid."
