Spanish driver Fernando Alonso is looking to score points in tomorrow's San Marino Grand Prix after a promising performance in today's final qualifying.
"I am very happy with my eighth place today," admitted Alonso. "The team worked very well and managed to find solutions to yesterday's problems. As a consequence, my car felt much better in qualifying, I had a good lap and I am confident that for tomorrow's race I am in the position to fight and score some points."
The Renault driver finished the last two races in third position and he is currently in third place in the drivers' standings with 14 points. Alonso's teammate Jarno Trulli was unable to match the performance of the Spaniard after he was forced to switch to the spare car for his flying lap.
"I had a problem with my car right before the start of qualifying and it's thanks to my mechanics that I didn't miss the session," said Trulli. "Although they worked hard and fast, the T-car was set up for Fernando and I just didn't feel comfortable enough on my lap. Tomorrow I will have to fight hard and I think it will be a tough race."
