Hakkinen unfazed

Mika Hakkinen says he refuses to be rattled by Michael Schumacher's blistering form in pre-Silverstone testing

The world championship leader dominated testing over four days last week building up to Sunday's fourth round of the world championship.

"I can't worry about the times he has done because it is difficult to know how he set them," said Hakkinen.

"I don't know if he was in a qualifying or a race set-up. So there is no point in taking stress about it."

The Finn scored his first points of the year when he finished second to
Schumacher at the last round in Imola and trails his Ferrari rival by 24 points.

He refused to concede, either, that the British Grand Prix, which is forecast to run over a rainy Easter weekend, will be decisive in deciding the championship.

"Do I think the championship will be decided here? I hope not," he said.

"To win the championship we have got to beat Ferrari. Whether we beat them here or not doesn't matter."

The Finn has never won the British race and his misfortunes culminated last year in his wheel being sent spinning off the car.

In the last six years he has finished third twice, second once and failed to finish the other three races.

"Silverstone hasn't been lucky for me but I try to start every race by thinking back to the last one and taking something positive from it."

Despite having started all of the first three races from pole Hakkinen said he could not even be sure McLaren had the best car.

"The only way to know is to drive all of the other cars and I haven't done that," he said.

"It has been frustrating not to finish or win the races. You work hard all the way through the weekend, win a big fight for pole then go into the race and something goes wrong.

"You do all that work and then you walk away with zero points in your pocket."
