Grapevine: Heidfeld launches helmet design contest

Nick Heidfeld has launched an initiative to allow a fan to win free tickets for the German Grand Prix, with a competition to design his helmet

The winning design will be used by Heidfeld in the Nurburgring race next month, and the winning contestant will also get two Gold Tickets for the grand prix weekend.

"The purpose of this competition is to allow my fans to give free rein to their artistic talents in coming up with a suitable design for my outing at the Nurburgring," said Heidfeld.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the results of all this creative input. I am always on the lookout for new ideas - in the case of my current helmet design, I got the inspiration from a snowboarder.

"I'll be getting together with Jens Munser, who has been designing helmets for me over the years, and we'll pick out the best entry. The winner of the competition will personally present me with the new helmet just before the first free practice session on the Friday of the race weekend. That will certainly be a great moment for both of us."

After the race, the helmet, which can be designed using the tools on Heidfeld's website, will be donated to RTL for the broadcaster to auction in its charity foundation.
