Glock confident of new Toyota deal

Timo Glock says he is confident about his prospects of securing a new deal with Toyota, with the Japanese manufacturer almost certain to take up an option it has on the German for next year

Glock has impressed since joining Toyota at the start of last season, taking two podium finishes for the team, and there had been speculation in the German media this week that his deal for 2010 was confirmed.

AUTOSPORT understands that no deal has yet been completed, but that there is an option on Toyota's side for a 2010 contract - and little reason for the team not to take it up.

Although there remains some uncertainty about Toyota's future in F1 amid the ongoing row about entries to next year's championship, Glock has said that if the team remains in the sport then he thinks it a given he will be part of the line up.

"I think we should be okay, but we have to wait and see how the whole situation is for next year," he explained. "But we should be okay."

Glock is bullish about Toyota's chances of bouncing back from its terrible performance at the Monaco Grand Prix, when he and team-mate Jarno Trulli ended up at the back of the grid. But he is unsure about how much of a recovery the team will make.

"I think Monaco was a one off but the trend in Barcelona was already a bit tricky," he explained. "On high speed tracks we were not too bad and this is more a high speed circuit than lower speed. Sure the last sector is quite slow but the rest should suit our car more.

"We have to fight back. We had a couple of difficult weekends this year and we showed when you believe in it and fight as hard as possible you can get back again, and that is what we have to do now. "
