Gene looks to Euro races for improvement

Williams test driver Marc Gene believes that his team can get its troubled new car sorted in time for the first European round of this year's Formula 1 World Championship - but he has predicted that Ferrari will still have a clear lead over its opposition

The Spaniard has praised the reliability achieved by the Williams team, but echoes comments made by the outfit's senior personnel recently that the car requires more work on its aerodynamics.

The Williams team has run virtually non-stop all winter trying to ready its new contender. "This winter I have done 7,000 miles," Gene told autosport.com, after setting the second fastest time in testing at Imola today. "Last year I did 22,000 miles all year and I thought that was a lot!

"Our car is very reliable, so hopefully that will pay off. I know we need more work on the new car but hopefully we can get it sorted in time for the European races. I know the first three races will be very confused, so maybe we can do better in the European races. But Ferrari will be strong from the start. I think the gap from second-best to the bottom will be closer, but that Ferrari will be way ahead."
