Fry Defends Sato over Schumacher Crash
BAR boss Nick Fry has jumped to the defence of Takuma Sato after he was heavily criticised by Michael Schumacher for a collision that put them both out of the Belgian Grand Prix
Schumacher claimed that Sato needed 'therapy' for his approach to racing after the Japanese driver ran into the back of him at the restart after a Safety Car period.
But Fry claims that such strong criticism was wrong - even though the race stewards have blamed Sato for the incident and docked him 10 places on the grid for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
"We talked to Taku at the end," said Fry. "He said he was coming up behind the Jordan and obviously with Michael in front of him, they both went inside, hit the brakes for the corner and he simply locked up and hit the back of Michael.
"It was simply unfortunate. Under these conditions it's obviously very difficult and he is clearly quite upset."
When asked what his response was to Schumacher's claims that Sato needed therapy, Fry said: "Clearly Takuma made a mistake but these things do happen.
"You saw today many of the top drivers making mistakes and Michael has made his fair share, so I don't think it's very fair to say that kind of thing about Taku."
