Friday Free Practice - European GP

Toyota driver Olivier Panis topped the times in the Friday morning practice session for the European Grand Prix as World Champion Michael Schumacher finished only 10th.

Frenchman Panis finished just 0.027 seconds ahead of second-placed Mark Webber in the Jaguar ahead of what is the Cologne-based team's closest race to their European headquarters.

Finn Kimi Raikkonen, of McLaren-Mercedes, finished a close third, 0.063 seconds behind with Renault pair Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso, who topped the morning testing times, fourth and fifth.

Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia finished sixth for Jaguar with Scot David Coulthard seventh, German Ralf Schumacher eighth, Panis' Brazilian Toyota teammate Cristiano da Matta ninth and Schumacher completing the top ten.

German Nick Heidfeld forced the session to be stopped for six minutes when he knocked off his front wing at the chicane with eighteen minutes of the hour-long practice gone.

Both Webber and da Matta spun their cars, at turns one and two respectively, just minutes after the restart and Webber lost control of his Jaguar at turn one again with ten minutes remaining.

With just four minutes of the session left Barrichello made the same mistake as Heidfeld when he clattered a plastic marker at the chicane and damaged his front wing but in his case it stayed fixed to the car and he coasted in.
