Frentzen Encouraged by Sauber's Pace

Heinz-Harald Frentzen was encouraged by the pace of his Sauber following the first qualifying session for the Italian Grand Prix.

"I had a good qualifying lap and I am happy with my time and the result," admitted Frentzen, who posted the ninth fastest time of the day. "We made some set up alterations to my C22 for qualifying which gave it a better balance than this morning, and my ninth place confirms our recent improvement in form."

The Swiss squad, who have not scored a point since the European Grand Prix back in June, enjoyed a positive start to their weekend, with Frentzen's teammate Nick Heidfeld setting the 12th fastest time.

"I think we have changed the set-up a little bit too much between the practice session this morning and qualifying, which consequently made it harder to handle the car," said Heidfeld at the end of the day.

"In addition, the track surface was quite dirty after the break and the wind whirled leaves into the air. However, my time showed that we are on the right track."
