French contract 'signed'
The French Grand Prix's place on the 2004 Formula 1 calendar has been secured, according to a statement by French motorsport's governing body
The FFSA has announced that it has reached agreement with an agreement with Formula One Management over the future of the event, which includes the necessary "financial guarantees."
The event at the Magny-Cours circuit was only given provisional status on the 2004 schedule by the FIA World Council, which stipulated that the race organisers had to agree a deal with Formula One Management for the race. The World Council also ruled that all F1 teams must unanimously agree for the event to run.
A statement issued by the FFSA today (Friday) said: "The FFSA has today signed and sent to the Formula One Management the contract for the organisation of the French Grand Prix in 2004 including the financial guarantees stipulated."
The World Council had given race organisers until the end of December to satisfy the two stipulations.
If the French Grand Prix's return to the schedule is confirmed, next season's F1 calendar will feature 18 races for the first time.
