Force India set to confirm Sergio Perez's new F1 deal by Mexican GP

Force India looks set to wait until the Mexican Grand Prix before confirming Sergio Perez has been retained for the 2016 Formula 1 season

After Nico Hulkenberg's new, was announced shortly before F1's Italian Grand Prix, Perez declared hopes of signing his contract .

But with that race now out of the way, Force India has taken the decision to announce he will be staying with the team in the run up to his home race on November 1.

"The deal will be done, I don't have any doubts about that," Fernley told AUTOSPORT.

"Even if it was done, in reality, the best place for us to announce it is in Mexico, so I don't think there will be anything before Mexico."

In finishing seventh in Singapore, Perez secured his fifth points-scoring finish from the last six races.

With two Ferraris, two Red Bulls, a Mercedes and a Williams ahead of him at the Marina Bay street circuit, Fernley concedes it was as good as the team could have expected.

Force India completed its B-spec package at Singapore and with a further update planned for Mexico to coincide with Perez's home event, Fernley is confident the team can be strong over the remaining six races.

"The B-spec is complete, so what we need to do now is optimise it," assessed Fernley.

"We were a bit disappointed with our pace in qualifying, so we need to look at that as well, and understand what we're doing there.

"But for the next couple of races we have an opportunity to optimise the spec, and hopefully we can bring something else in before the end of the year, possibly Mexico if we can.

"Overall, I'm confident we now have a car that can perform reasonably well everywhere.

"There's obviously room for improvement, but we've not got highs and lows any more like we used to have, we're consistent across the board.

"Singapore proved that, Hungary as well, and then we had good performances at Monza and Spa.

"I think you can see now a much more consistent car performing on a regular basis in roughly the same area."
