Flat Chat Podcast: Is Russell the heir to Hamilton's throne?

George Russell's claim to be the heir to Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton is the hot topic in the latest Flat Chat podcast from GP Racing magazine

Flat Chat Podcast: Is Russell the heir to Hamilton's throne?

Following his outstanding performance as Hamilton's stand-in at the Sakhir Grand Prix, GP Racing editor Ben Anderson and columnist Mark Gallagher join host Stuart Codling to debate Russell's claim to the lead Mercedes seat when Hamilton eventually vacates it.

Russell, the cover star of this month's GP Racing, seems to be the perfect fit at Mercedes - within the team if not the car's cockpit. It's possible he could even replace Valtteri Bottas from 2022. How might that change a team dynamic which has been stable and rancour-free since Nico Rosberg's departure at the end of 2016?

This current issue of GP Racing also offers a historic lesson in how not to do Formula 1, digging into the real reasons for the failure of Toyota's F1 project - a story of corporate hubris, massive financial waste, and model tanks that fired real ammunition...

And as F1 confirms an epic 23-race calendar for 2021, the guests weigh up the controversial new race scheduled for Saudi Arabia, a choice of destination which has generated vitriol in the mainstream media as well as from F1 fans. Is it right to go there, or should F1 only visit territories whose values and outlook tally exactly with those of the Western world?
