Giancarlo Fisichella says his Jordan team will need a "big improvement" if they want to be competitive at Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix.
Italian Fisichella, the surprising winner of the Brazilian Grand Prix almost a month ago, showed the Silverstone-based outfit are still lacking pace, winding up 15th quickest nearly two seconds off the pace.
"Today was nothing special," said Fisichella. "We didn't really expect to be in good shape as this circuit is so difficult when it comes to balance and it seems we can't get our car to suit the track. We are working on it as we need a big improvement for tomorrow."
British teammate Ralph Firman, who has struggled to match Fisichella's pace in the first four races of the season, was much closer to the Italian today. The rookie finished around three tenths of a second behind his teammate, although he was down in an unimpressive 18th position.
"Although I'm a bit disappointed overall, I felt it was a reasonable lap, and it's encouraging that I'm not too far away from Giancarlo's time," said Firman. "We were looking promising this morning so hopefully we can find that pace again and move up the grid."
