Fisichella given all-clear to race

Giancarlo Fisichella has been given the all-clear to race at the British Grand Prix following his testing shunt at Silverstone last week

The Italian crashed his Force India car at the final part of Becketts after being caught out by a gust of wind. He had a heavy impact with the barriers and had to have his wrist examined at hospital after it was jarred in the accident.

After being examined by the FIA medical staff at Silverstone, Fisichella has been passed fit to race.

"I'm ok," the Italian told autosport.com. "It was painful for a few days. I did the FIA check and I'm ready to race. I just had some bruising."

Fisichella said that the explanation for the crash was simple.

"It was very windy and I was on the exit of turn five and the wind pushed me out," he said. "I got a little bit on the grass with the rear wheel and I lost control into the wall. It wasn't a big accident."

The accident was a minor setback for Force India's testing programme, with the team evaluating new components that they hope will help lift them off the back of the grid.

But despite being confident they have made progress, Fisichella is cautious about the team's chances of making it through to Q2 for the first time this season.

"We made a step forward for sure, but I don't think it's enough," he explained. "In the last few races we were at least five or sixth tenths behind and we just made about a three tenths step forward. We'll see. I try my best and still our target is to get in the top 15. But it's quite tough."
