FIA Cancels US GP Verdict
The seven Michelin Formula One teams have been officially exonerated of blame for refusing to race at the United States Grand Prix, as Autosport-Atlas exclusively revealed
Following the FIA Senate's recommendation to cancel guilty verdicts against the teams after a meeting with Michelin teams' representatives Ron Dennis and Christian Horner in Monaco earlier this month to discuss new evidence, the FIA's World Motor Sport Council has agreed with that decision.
A statement issued by the FIA on Friday said: "Having examined the new evidence previously submitted to the FIA Senate, the FIA World Motor Sport Council has voted overwhelmingly to accept the recommendation of the FIA Senate regarding events at the 2005 United States Grand Prix.
"The guilty verdicts of June 29 made against the seven Michelin teams have therefore been cancelled."
The teams had previously been found guilty on two charges of bringing the sport into disrepute. They were blamed for not being in possession of suitable tyres and that they wrongfully refused to start the race.
The WMSC decision finally brings an end to simmering tensions in the paddock between the FIA and teams following the United States Grand Prix farce, although tyre supplier Michelin has now been singled out as wholly to blame for the events.
