Ferrari Await their Fate, Says Todt

Sunday's Monaco Formula One Grand Prix will show whether Ferrari got their qualifying strategy right or disappointingly wrong, according to team boss Jean Todt.

Sunday's Monaco Formula One Grand Prix will show whether Ferrari got their qualifying strategy right or disappointingly wrong, according to team boss Jean Todt.

"We have recorded our least satisfactory result of the season so far, at a track where the grid position is very important," he said on Saturday after neither Ferrari qualified on the front two rows.

World Champion Michael Schumacher was fifth, a setback for a driver seeking a record-equalling sixth win in the principality, and his Brazilian teammate Rubens Barrichello seventh.

"However, there is still a question mark over the amount of fuel the drivers have chosen to go to the start with. We will only find out the truth during the race," added Todt in a Ferrari statement.

"It is clear that if those who are ahead of us today can do a similar number of laps to us (before pitting), then we will be in a difficult situation. If we can stay out on the track for longer, then we can be in the running right to the end."

Technical director Ross Brawn said it was hard to tell what fuel strategy rivals such as Williams, who had Ralf Schumacher on pole, and McLaren were using with cars qualifying on different fuel levels under the changed 2003 rules.

"We must just wait and see what happens in the race," he said.
