F1 stars head Goodwood spectacular

Seven current F1 drivers and seven teams helped to make last weekend's Goodwood festival of Speed a huge success, and a fitting tribute to the event's 10th anniversary

F1 stars head Goodwood spectacular

The impressive turnout from this year's F1 field comprised David Coulthard, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jenson Button, Olivier Panis, Cristiano da Matta, Ralph Firman and Justin Wilson. In addition there were four test drivers who actually raced last year, namely Allan McNish, Felipe Massa, Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson.

As usual most drivers spent their runs wreathed in tyre smoke, but as Jordan and Toyota actually ran current chassis that will go direct to Silverstone, Firman, Panis and da Matta all under orders not to do anything too silly.

Ferrari (Massa), BAR (Sato and Button), Renault (McNish) and Williams (Montoya) were represented by cars that raced in 2002.

David Coulthard drove the Mercedes-Benz W196 streamliner, while McLaren fielded a restored ex-Senna MP4-8 for Johnny Herbert, who had never sampled a McLaren before. Justin Wilson appeared in his manager Jonathan Palmer's Jaguar-powered sportscar.
