Former Ferrari race engineer Chris Dyer is to return to Formula 1 with Renault's new works outfit to head up its vehicle performance group

Ex-Ferrari engineer Chris Dyer to return to F1 with Renault

Dyer, who was Michael Schumacher's race engineer during his title-winning campaigns with Ferrari in 2003 and 2004, will focus on performance and supporting the race team with set up.

Renault's vehicle performance group works on suspension, brakes and simulation and was responsible for introducing the innovative tuned mass damper system in the mid-2000s.

Dyer joins a new-look team at Enstone which also features ART Grand Prix boss Frederic Vasseur as racing director and Bob Bell, who returns to the outfit as chief technical officer.

Dyer began his Formula 1 career with Arrows before moving to Ferrari, working with Schumacher and performing the role of race engineer for Kimi Raikkonen during his title-winning season in 2007.

He was moved away from his F1 trackside role onto its GT project in the wake of the Abu Dhabi title defeat for Fernando Alonso in 2010 but was not happy with the move and decided to leave the Scuderia.

Meanwhile, chief race engineer Ayao Komatsu has left Enstone to take up the same role with the new Haas F1 team and has already started work with the American outfit.
