Downbeat Alesi Aiming to Score Points

The Jordan team endured one of their worst qualifying sessions of the year at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on Saturday, with Frenchman Jean Alesi finishing in thirteenth place while teammate Jarno Trulli could only manage to set the sixteenth quickest time.

Alesi, in his second race with the Silverstone-based team after leaving Prost, was unable to translate his promising pace in practice into a good result in qualifying, the Frenchman being one of the many drivers to choose the wrong tyres in the dying minutes of the session.

The veteran driver was downbeat after his high expectations on Friday, but was still confident to finish in the points on Sunday.

"I'm very disappointed with my position," admitted Alesi. "I went out on intermediate tyres towards the end of the session and in hindsight that was a mistake, as the track dried out for the very last lap.

"Grooved tyres would have been perfect and with dry tyres I would have been able to improve my lap time and qualify higher up the grid.

"It's now very important for us to concentrate on setting up the car for the race distance and I'm still looking forward to trying to score some points for Jordan tomorrow."
