Dennis: Alonso a Worthy Champion

McLaren boss Ron Dennis said there was no doubt Fernando Alonso was a worthy winner of the World Championship, despite expressing his disappointment at Kimi Raikkonen finally having his title dream come to an end

Alonso's third place was good enough for the Spaniard to clinch the title, even though McLaren's 1-2 finish was enough for the team to take the lead in the Constructors' Championship.

"I am a little bit sad," said Dennis in an interview with ITV. "I would liked to have gone to the last races with some chance of winning the drivers' championship, but Fernando did a good job and deserves to win the Championship."

Dennis admitted that their focus was now on the constructors' battle - which the team are favourite for thanks to the ongoing dominant pace of the MP4-20.

"It was a great race for both drivers here," he said. "They raced until the last pitstop so I am pleased for both of them. But there are two races to go and anything can happen. We will take it one step at a time."
