Davidson not concerned about back issues
Anthony Davidson is confident the back problems that marred his return to race action in Australia are now fully behind him - after admitting his biggest concern in Sepang testing this week is getting a good balance on his Super Aguri car
The Briton was taken to hospital after the Australian Grand Prix for precautionary checks on a back injury he had suffered in a collision with Adrian Sutil early in the race. Tests found it to be a muscular problem.
After being given the all clear and recuperating in Australia, Davidson returned to the cockpit for the first time at Sepang this week - and has thankfully reported no further issues with his back.
"Physically I have no problems to drive," he told autosport.com. "I don't think one week is enough time to fully recover from that kind of injury, but there is no problem driving with it. My back is not perfect yet, but so far I am okay.
"I just want to find more grip and confidence with the car. There is a lot more to come from the tyres and the car here, so let's see."
Davidson claims that the general feel of the SA07, which proved to be a big surprise in Australia when Takuma Sato qualified it in the top ten, has not been as good in Sepang testing as it was at Albert Park.
"Since I took over from Taku yesterday I have been struggling to find a good balance," he said. "I mean the balance is not as good as it was in Melbourne.
"It is, I think, a general lack of grip. But today, when the track got dry, I found a small improvement to the balance through mechanical changes."
His lack of satisfaction with the current performance of the car has left him delighted that the Sepang test has been extended into Friday.
"I am quite happy to have another day at it," he explained. "I must be the only person in the paddock happy to have an extra day!
"All I need is a good lap on a new set of tyres, just to see how it is. So far I have only used two sets of tyres (hard compound) so I feel as though I have been driving in the rain all the time..."
