Date set for Jaguar Formula 1 launch

Jaguar Racing plans to unveil what is likely to be the most important Formula 1 car in the team's short history on Monday January 13

Date set for Jaguar Formula 1 launch

Jaguar spokesman Nav Sidhu confirmed the date when questioned by Autosport.com. It will be held in the UK, but the choice of venue has yet to be finalised.

The team is the first to confirm its new car launch for 2003. As well as taking the wraps of the new racer, the event will be a means of formally introducing the team's new 'young gun' driver line-up of Mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia, who have been signed to replace experienced duo Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa.

There is also speculation that new senior team personnel will be named at the launch.

In the past year, Jaguar's management have come under pressure from parent company Ford to justify the continuation of the F1 programme. Although Jaguar has been given a public vote of confidence by the Ford board, the pressure will be on for the R4 to push the team higher up the grid after three years of disappointment.

Formula 1 provided its clearest example yet of what the 2022 cars are set to look like when it presented a full-scale concept to the world during the build-up to last weekend’s British Grand Prix.
