Coulthard Determined to Continue with Launch Control

Despite having stalled two times in three races, McLaren driver David Coulthard is determined to use his team's launch control system at Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix.

Coulthard was forced to start from the back of the grid both at the Spanish and Monaco Grands Prix, where his car was left stranded before the formation lap due to a problem with the recently introduced launch control system, which is supposed to help the driver making a better start.

Teammate Mika Hakkinen has also stalled his McLaren twice this season, and team boss Ron Dennis admitted the system was too complicated. However, Coulthard admitted that he has the intention of using it again.

"We intend to keep using this system," Coulthard told Motorsport News, "because in all the simulations we have carried out up to now it showed itself to be much quicker than the manual start. Also in all the tests, the part of the system that failed in Monaco has worked perfectly.

"The difficulties in Monaco and Spain were different, but we're almost certain to have resolved the problems."

Both in Spain and Monaco, Coulthard was able to recover to finish in fifth place.
