Coulthard could support Kimi in title race

McLaren ace David Coulthard has admitted that he could help team-mate Kimi Raikkonen's bid to win the world championship this year, after Michael Schumacher's fourth win of the season in Montreal moved him ahead of the Finn in the title standings

Raikkonen is just three points behind the Ferrari ace in the world championship standings, whereas Coulthard is 29 points off the lead, having retired from the race in Montreal with gearbox problems.

The Scot has admitted that his chances of winning this year's title are "getting further away," and has said that he would assist Raikkonen's title challenge, if McLaren called him upon to do so.

"If it's getting to the point where I'm not mathematically in with a chance then that is the team's right," Coulthard told the Daily Telegraph. "Yes, I'm out there as an individual trying to do the best I can - but I'm supported by a team and I have to respect that. I would never swim against the tide on that, it makes no sense."
