Button insists he's happy with Renault

Jenson Button has said he would rather be at Renault next year than get the chance to switch to McLaren like fellow wonder-kid and stablemate Kimi Raikkonen

Button, who is managed by the same company as Raikkonen, says the Finn deserves his break with a big team next year, but also believes that staying with Renault for 2002 is his own best option.

"Kimi has done a great job this year, and he deserves a good drive," Button told Autosport.com. "I think I'd rather be here next year, anyway. I think it's a good place to be next year, and I'm very confident that Renault can do very well."

The Briton is unwilling to be specific about his aims for next season, which is scheduled to be his final year 'on loan' from Williams-BMW.

"I'm not sure if we'll be winning races, or fighting for the championship, but we'll be a lot closer," he added. "With November and December off, Renault hadn't got to have any engines going out, and I think they'll be able to work very well. They are an amazing company, and I think they'll be up there next year."
