Button Happy to be Back in Action

BAR-Honda driver Jenson Button proclaimed himself happy to be back in the cockpit of his car following first qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix but was left disappointed after weather conditions hampered his running.

BAR-Honda driver Jenson Button proclaimed himself happy to be back in the cockpit of his car following first qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix but was left disappointed after weather conditions hampered his running.

Button, who missed the Monaco Grand Prix after being knocked unconscious during practice in Monte Carlo, qualified 14th fastest in heavy rain at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. But the 23-year-old said he was disappointed the wet conditions limited his running time as he missed the opportunity to get back into the groove in Montreal following his enforced two-week lay-off.

"I am feeling good. It was alright getting back in but it wasn't very good conditions so it wasn't much fun," Button said after the session. "It is always the way. When you need to test you can't. We had a problem in the morning so I couldn't get out in the dry and I didn't get out until it was raining so it is a bit disappointing.

"But qualifying was wet so at least we had a bit of practice. I am just a bit disappointed we couldn't do a better job."

Button managed only 14 laps in the morning practice session, all run in the wet after technical problems prevented him from taking to the track during the early dry minutes, and he finished 18th fastest.

He then had to endure the worst conditions in qualifying and added: "It was very difficult to see where the water was and also the car balance was not fantastic. I had a lot of oversteer which you don't want in the wet, it is completely opposite to what you want in the wet.

"But we are not going to be one of the first cars out (in qualifying) tomorrow so at least the circuit will be pretty clean. I am here to get a good result and I am pretty confident."
