Button Aims to Overtake Villeneuve in the WC

Briton Jenson Button is aiming to take seventh place away from Jacques Villeneuve in the Formula One World Championship at the Malaysian Grand Prix next Sunday.

Briton Jenson Button is aiming to take seventh place away from Jacques Villeneuve in the Formula One World Championship at the Malaysian Grand Prix next Sunday.

The 20 year-old driver, who has impressed with the Williams team this season, needs to improve on his best result so far, a fourth place, to move ahead of Villeneuve in the championship.

"Jacques is only three points in front, so it's a possibility and that's what I'm going for," said Button. "I haven’t really gone wheel-to-wheel with him much. A couple of races we were very close and we had a good scrap in Austria. He's good to race against - good fun. It would be nice to have a big finish with Williams."

Button has scored twelve points in his first Formula One season and will move to the Benetton team next year, although he would prefer to stay with his current team, as he confirmed.

"It would be a lot better for me to stay with the team," he confessed. "I have a good relationship with the people in it. But things have to change. The best thing now when I get back from a good qualifying session and I go to see Frank, he just smiles about what is going to happen next year. He is cool."

Despite his tight schedule, Button had the opportunity to relax ahead of the final Grand Prix of the season, and spent some time bodysurfing at the Sunway Lagoon, near Kuala Lumpur, before going back to work for the first practice session on Friday.
