British GP a Wake-Up Call for Williams

Team owner Frank Williams feels his in-form team could be in line for a wake up call in this weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Team owner Frank Williams feels his in-form team could be in line for a wake up call in this weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Ralf Schumacher has steered Williams-BMW to victory in the last two races and teammate Juan Pablo Montoya's second place in France ten days ago moved the Grove-based outfit to within three points of series leaders Ferrari.

Schumacher is 11 points behind his brother Michael in the drivers' standings with Montoya a further six adrift, and Williams has continually played down any talk of winning the world title. But Williams, whose team signed a sponsorship deal with Budweiser today, said: "If we win at Silverstone, then we can start thinking that maybe we can win the title.

"But Ralf is 11 points behind and he would have to win the last six races with Michael second each time to take the title. That's a tall order. The last four races were very good for us, but they were all on relatively straight-forward circuits. The tough circuits for us are Barcelona, Silverstone, Melbourne and Suzuka.

"This race will be a wake-up call for us. We might run at the front, but it's a tough circuit and Silverstone has often sent the team home with some hard lessons. Ferrari will want to lash the back and McLaren's old car was still quick at the last test but if we win fair and square it means our car is in as good a shape as anybody's."
