Brawn Believes 11th Team is Viable
Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn believes it is not too late for Honda's second Formula One team to get onto the grid next season - but only if they use versions of this year's BAR007 chassis
Although speculation is mounting that Honda and their partner team are already running out of time to get their plans for F1's 11th team off the ground, Brawn is sure it can still happen.
"I can only assume they are not going to produce everything and the only viable option, to me, is that they have to use existing equipment," he said.
"In the same way as I think the Red Bull Minardi are looking at what cars and what technology they can use, this is rumoured to be a Honda second team so I am sure they are looking at what BAR can do.
"Starting from scratch now without that support would not be feasible but I think piggybacking onto an existing team is quite possible. We don't have any strong feelings about it and I think another team in Formula One would be a good thing. I don't think we have any objections to it."
Although teams are not allowed to run customer chassis bought off rival outfits, they can buy the intellectual property rights to the design of those cars and build them themselves to get around this regulation.
