Barrichello: Full race distance unsafe

Rubens Barrichello believes the Korean Grand Prix should not have been allowed to run its full distance because visibility was too poor at the end of the event

Bad weather meant the start of the Yeongam event had to be delayed, and that pushed it back so late that it finished in near darkness.

And Barrichello reckons the FIA should have red-flagged the race before it reached full distance because it was too dark to continue safely.

"It was unsafe," said Barrichello. "Quite curiously, the problem that we had in Fuji in 2007 was aquaplaning. Aquaplaning was not a problem here, it was only visibility.

"You could argue whether the race started a bit too early or not, and luckily the water started to go down. Then everything was running smoothly - but I think the race should have stopped five or six laps before - I couldn't see. I had a clear visor.

"I have a record in Fiorano, because when Fiorano didn't have the time restrictions you could run as long as you wanted. In the summer, I once had 21:36h when I went out, and it was as dark as at the end of the race."

Not all drivers agreed with Barrichello about the light conditions though.

Vitantonio Liuzzi told AUTOSPORT: "The last three-four laps I was struggling to look at my steering wheel because the dashboard lights were too bright, but you could see the track surface and that was the most important thing. You don't need to see the crowd and grandstands."
