BAR Test Tyres for Monaco

Despite being banned from the Monaco Grand Prix next week, BAR-Honda ran a tyre evaluation programme for the race at Paul Ricard today, Autosport-Atlas can reveal

BAR were banned from the Spanish and Monaco Grands Prix by the FIA's International Court of Appeal.

The team vowed to return for the European Grand Prix stronger and better than before, and today the Brackley-based outfit joined McLaren, Renault, Red Bull and Sauber for testing at the French circuit near Le Castellet.

But while BAR's third driver Anthony Davidson was completing further work on new aerodynamic parts, now scheduled to be introduced at the Nurburgring, the team's second test driver Enrique Bernoldi was conducting Monaco tyre testing work for Michelin.

Michelin's motorsport director Pierre Dupasquier confirmed that data collected by BAR this week would be used for the benefit of the other six Michelin-shod teams taking part in the event, stating this was in line with the company's philosophy.

"That's what a good partner is about," Dupasquier told Autosport-Atlas. "We have always maintained that joint work by all our teams will benefit them all. BAR are not alone."

A BAR spokeswoman added that Bernoldi's tyre testing would also help the team in upcoming races, after the Monaco event.

"The tyre work that we've done today and for the rest of the test [this week], is tyre evaluation for the forthcoming races and part of the programme that we had agreed on with Michelin," the spokeswoman said.
