BAR target third in championship
Criag Pollock, British American Racing's team boss has pledged that his team is aiming for third in the championship race, behind the pace-setting McLarens and Ferraris, in only their second season
Though top driver Jacques Villeneuve admitted that the BAR-Honda 02 is not fast enough, Pollock suggested that new parts currently in development would help the team steal a march on their rivals.
"We have modifications coming that should help us to be top of the rest," he said earlier today.
"It is dreaming to expect us to be on the same level as McLaren and Ferrari," he added, "but if we can bring on the chassis modifications fast enough and if Honda help us with the engine our intention is to be as far forward as we can - albeit behind McLaren and Ferrari."
Pollock claimed that Honda had deliberately played safe with the V10 engine in the early stages of the season, but were now prepared to push the envelope slightly more.
"Honda are being very conservative with the engine - which is the Japanese way - and we already have things to bolt on the car for the next two races."
Generally, the Honda V10 has been reliable - both BAR's finished the Brazilian Grand Prix with no major problems - but Ricardo Zonta suffered from an engine failure in this morning's free practice session.
