BAR keen to grab 'last chance'

Jenson Button is confident that this weekend's season-closing Brazilian Grand Prix will offer his BAR team one of its best chances of securing a maiden Formula 1 victory to cap its brilliant 2004 campaign

Although BAR has put in some strong performances in recent events, Button is confident that Interlagos' tight twist-and-turns in the infield section, as well as the long climb out of the final corner across the start-finish line, will suit the team even more as it chases a maiden win.

"Brazil has always been a race that I have enjoyed," said Button. "Interlagos is a circuit that has seen some very good racing over the years, especially last year with the wet conditions. It's also a circuit where our car will perform very well, better than in Shanghai and Suzuka I feel.

"This is the last chance we have of a win this season and probably the best chance over the last few races. You need good braking stability at Interlagos because a lot of the time you're braking and turning in at the same time. I think we have that and so we are looking strong."

The BAR006 has been renowned as having excellent braking, traction and acceleration - especially since its revised Front Torque Transfer system was re-introduced to the car from the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

And although the team could play it safe in its fight with Renault for second place in the constructors' championship, team boss David Richards is adamant that his outfit is going there with its sights set on only one result.

"We have just one race to go in Brazil next week for us to consolidate second place in the constructors' championship," he said. "It will also be one of our best opportunities to aim for that elusive first win as the circuit should suit our car well.

"It would of course be the result that everyone back at the B·A·R factory in Brackley deserves after what has been a truly sensational year for the team."
