BAR in Talks with Sato about Future

The BAR team are in talks with Takuma Sato about the driver's future after it was confirmed on Wednesday he will not race for the team in 2006

BAR confirmed that Briton Jenson Button will stay at the team after the driver bought his way out of a Williams contract.

The announcement meant Japanese driver Sato will be left without a racing seat at BAR for 2006, with the Honda-powered team having already confirmed Rubens Barrichello as Button's teammate.

BAR boss Nick Fry, however, said they would talk to Sato about future possibilities.

"Takuma Sato has been an extremely valuable and much-liked member of our team for four years in the roles of test driver, third driver and, latterly, race driver," Fry said. "He has made an enormous contribution to BAR Honda's development.

"Takuma's current contract reaches its conclusion at the end of 2005 but BAR is in discussions with Takuma and his management regarding possibilities for the future."

Sato was a test driver for BAR in 2003 before he graduated to a racing seat in 2004. This season Sato has scored just one point to Button's 30.
