Badoer Shunt Forces Ferrari to Cancel Test

The Ferrari team were forced to cancel their first day of testing at the Mugello circuit following Luca Badoer's accident in the morning.

The Ferrari team were forced to cancel their first day of testing at the Mugello circuit following Luca Badoer's accident in the morning.

After only a few laps, the test driver lost control of his car at high speed at the Arrabbiata corner, slamming against the tyre barriers and causing heavy damage to the new Ferrari F2003-GA. The team said that an initial analysis showed the cause of the accident had been a mechanical failure.

Badoer was uninjured, but was flown to the CTO hospital in Florence for a check-up. The Italian tester was found to be fine and was allowed to go home in the afternoon. However, the heavy damage caused to the F2003-GA made it impossible for Ferrari to continue working and they were forced to cancel the test.

It was the second time that Badoer had crashed with the F2003-GA after an accident at the Jerez circuit last month. Ferrari said their testing programme will continue tomorrow at the Fiorano circuit, where Felipe Massa will be in action with an F2002.
