Autosport F1 Podcast: Ferrari shoots itself in foot with controversy

Lewis Hamilton may have won the Russian Grand Prix, but that was overshadowed by controversy at the Ferrari Formula 1 team as its winning run ultimately came to an end

Sebastian Vettel spent the early part of the race leading his polesitting team-mate Charles Leclerc after defying a team order and, though the places were swapped in the pitstops, Vettel then stopped on track - giving Hamilton the chance to jump Leclerc and win.

In the Autosport Podcast's Russian Grand Prix review, Valentin Khorounzhiy and Scott Mitchell join Edd Straw to explain what Ferrari's pre-race agreement was, and why Vettel continued to lead after the start rather than letting Leclerc through.

They also consider Ferrari's attempts to take back control of the situation and whether it did orchestrate the stops purely to get Leclerc back ahead, and what level of trust there is in the Ferrari camp now.

How Mercedes put itself in a position to win the race, thanks to the intervention of the virtual safety car, is also considered, as is what Ferrari's status as pacesetter means considering the differences between Sochi and Singapore's Marina Bay circuit, where it won a week earlier.

The podcast also takes a brief look at Mercedes' deal to supply McLaren with engines again from 2021.
