Asiatech to buy into Prost?
Arrows engine supplier Asiatech is rumoured to be looking at buying a stake in Prost Grand Prix, according to speculation in the Formula 1 paddock
Asiataech was formed last year after buying Peugeot's entire F1 operation and currently supplies the Arrows team with an updated version of the French marque's 2000-spec V10. The company recently branched out into sportscars and plans to enter Le Mans next year, but is thought to be interested in buying into Prost, once a rumoured buy-out of the team by Pedro Diniz is complete.
The former Grand Prix driver joined Prost last year in a managerial role and his investment helped the Guyancourt-based team to secure its Ferrari power-plants used in the AP04 this season. Sources claim Asiatech doesn't want to control Prost, just profit from the marketing and commercial gains of involvement in an F1 team.
Arrows' contract with Asiatech means the Leafield outfit is supplied with free engines this year, but would have to pay if it wants to continue into 2002.
