Antonio Pizzonia Q&A
After a couple of seasons on the verge of Formula 1, with testing roles with Benetton/Renault and Williams under his belt, Antonio Pizzonia gets his big break with Jaguar Racing in 2003. The Brazilian is ready and raring for his rookie grand prix season, but is realistic in his aims. Autosport.com's Charles Bradley caught up with him
It's a really big challenge for me, especially with all the changes in the team. But I think things are going in the right direction with the new management. I think I'm ready too, I feel quite confident. Of course I have a lot to learn, though. As long as the new car is quicker I feel we will be quite strong.
Definitely, yes. I did nearly 15,000km and I think I have a good feeling for how a Formula 1 car should work. It's been a great experience for me, and I think that everything I learned with Williams will be with me for the rest of my life. It's also very important from a technology point of view, so I know how to set-up one of these cars.
Yes, because Williams is a winning team and its great to learn how a winning team works. The way they operate is totally geared to winning races, and what I learned there I will bring to Jaguar now. Hopefully that will help us work in the right direction. I think we'll be OK.
I do, because we have two new drivers, which brings a refreshing attack for the team. The new management is looking really good, and I think it will only improve things within the team. There is a lot of work to be done, it's not going to be easy, but I think I'm ready.
Not at the moment. I mean, I know I have to learn a lot. We don't know how much we're going to improve, so it's difficult to set personal goals. We don't know how much the other teams will improve their cars too. It's a case of wait and see. I can't wait to drive the new car because there are a lot of hope for it from the drivers' side.
He's very quick and has a lot of experience. I think it's going to be very good working with him this season. I think we get on very well together, which is very important because we're trying to build up the team. When we get to qualifying and racing we'll be trying to beat each other, but off the track we'll have to work together, otherwise we won't improve a lot.
What they've tried to do is focus on fixing the problems from last year. The good thing is that they knew what the problems were and how to fix them. Obviously there are also other areas where the car needs to be improved as well. I'll tell you a bit more when I drive it for the first time!
