Renault duo Fernando Alonso and Jarno Trulli got their British Grand Prix weekend off to a good start when they topped the times in Friday morning testing ahead of the Jaguar of Mark Webber.
Spaniard Alonso set a time of 1:21.547 to finish just 0.174 seconds ahead of his Italian teammate Trulli with Webber third, 0.513 seconds behind in the Terminator 3-liveried Jaguar.
Both Trulli and Scot Allan McNish, who eventually finished fourth, spun their Renaults in the complex during the session but continued to complete further laps during the two-hour test.
Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia, in the second Jaguar, finished fifth after recovering from a minor spin at Stowe while the Jordan pair of Italian Giancarlo Fisichella and Briton Ralph Firman finished sixth and seventh.
Firman stopped at Club with 15 minutes of the session remaining and although that did little to hamper his session he still finished more than a second slower than teammate Fisichella.
Dutchman Jos Verstappen and his British Minardi teammate Justin Wilson finished bottom of the pile once again with Verstappen just seven thousandths of a second slower than Firman and Wilson six tenths further back.
